The Terra Stations are in final assembly now, and orders are being sent out from today onwards

Some of the improvements to Terra include: a revised wind shield system, a better seating power plug, better heat resistance, improved seals, a stronger external connector, and antenna connectors included for all Terras.

There are a whole lot of parts coming together here - the app, the device, and everything we need to launch, but so far so good. It's already amazing to have multiple terra devices working out there - it's hard to imagine having 2000! All very exciting and we'll continue to update as we go...

It's been almost 3 years since Terra began, and we've finally produced one. We got our first 20 Terra PCB boards for testing, as well as all the parts we needed. We ran them all through our giant easy bake oven, and out came a complete Terra.

We wrote earlier that CTT has developed a butterfly tag that will help us track migration of monarch butterflies in North America - and that Terra will pick them up. In the spirit of being inclusive, Terra will also pick up our bat tags! So if a tagged bat or butterfly passes by, Terra will let you know, and will let us know, too. This means your Terra—and you!—will contribute conservation data to an ever-increasing diversity of organisms. The network we are creating together is going to be so rewarding to watch, and there will be more and more types of detections we'll add as we go!

We've been working on getting together all the parts and accessories for shipping, and it's all coming together. Two big rolls of material are going to a sewing contractor to make 4000 windscreens (!) that will go into each end of the devices. We also are expecting a small but very heavy shipment of magnets, which will connect the Terra to it's support without compromising the integrity of the housing. Last but not least, the final enclosures are being worked up, and we can't wait to put it all together!

These are some of the first samples of our injection molded case, which is under review for any final fit and finish issues.

This is the final sample of the windscreen, which on approval, will kick off it's mass production. This will be one of the several techniques used to reduce unwanted wind noise when listening to Terra.

We have successfully collected 1 million pings from various Blu Morpho tags (the ones that are used on Monarch Butterfies) over the past 13 days!

Yellow-breasted Chats are an elusive and unique bird in the US and Canada, but they're worth keeping and eye — and even more so, an ear — out for this spring! The Yellow-breasted Chat is quite the oddity: It is the only member of the monotypic family Icteridae, and one of the reasons why it was moved out of Parulidae (warblers) is that its vocalizations are so different.
